What could be better than Christmas in the Keys? The answer: A Christmas wedding in the Keys. Good friends and frequent visitors Jim “Doc” and Pam Doherty, from Galva, IL, brought the whole family to Captain Pip’s for a holiday wedding. The wedding took place at sunset on Captain Pip’s dock. Captain Johnny presided over the ceremony followed by the traditional wedding toast and the not-so-traditional Doherty family “nub” salute. The Newlyweds, Army Lt. Christopher and Amanda Doherty spent their honeymoon fishing aboard the family’s 30-foot Proline, “Flatlines.” And to make the week even more memorable, “Doc” and Lt. Chris each landed their first sailfish. Best wishes to a great couple and a wonderful family.
Mike O’Connell (left) with friend Bob Grinnell decided to spend a leisurely morning fishing aboard our 29-ft. Topaz, “Papa Pip’s,” What they got was something totally different – a triple sailfish hook up and one last strike made a total catch of four large sailfish before lunch. Fishing mate Chris Morin (right) called it one of those “sweet” days on the water.
Dan (second from left) and Carol Mentessi, from Largo, FL , spent three days fishing at Captain Pip’s with Captain Bob Manske (right) and fishing mate Josh Gilmartin (left). They wanted fish and that’s what they got – hogfish, yellowtail snapper, grouper, a whole boatload full of kingfish and makerel, and more
Big fish for a big man. Two days of fishing netted Troy Lennon two personal firsts – a 270-lb Goliath Grouper caught and released fishing the deep Bayside wrecks off Marathon and an 82-inch sailfish caught and released off Sombrero Key Light. Troy was fishing with friend Luke Bernas aboard John Bernas’ 32-foot Grady White, “Lynn Marie,” with Captain Mike Rathbun (pictured at right with sailfish
The Porky’s Poker Run is a sure bet. This little run turned out to be big fun for the more than 60 bikes that participated by purchasing 110 poker hands to benefit Marathon neighbor, Barbara Barber, who needs a lung transplant. The run raised nearly $1,000 to help offset Barber’s medical costs. Kit O’Connor (standing at left) helped coordinate the run and sold tickets for the 50/50 raffle. Friends and neighbors Jackie and Jim Pierce (pictured at right with cigar and drink) and Grant Murdoch (center) got in the spirit. Susan Walsh (pictured at bar on left) and Phyllis Rowden mug for the camera.
